Final Website Checklist

The Final Website

Your final website will need to be a self-hosted WordPress site. This website should use the Divi theme by Elegant Themes. Any other type of website will result in a zero for all final website related assignments. Below you will find a list of requirements for the final website. You can also find the tutorial videos on how to setup your website at understandingwp.com

Checklist Plugin

Download the checklist plugin on understandingwp.com/downloads/ to easily check your progress.

Pages (Minimum)

  • Home (Attractive, complete, non-cluttered)
  • Contact page (Some form of contact. An email form would be optimal)
  • About (Two paragraphs about you and the site/purpose. Can also be on the contact page)
  • Blog page (This links you to a page with all your posts)
  • A project page that contains thumbnails/links for all 3 Comm 462 projects (Identity, infographic, and product redesign)

Design/Layout/Images

  • Every post should have an appealing, unique, and relevant featured image
  • All featured images should be cropped in an appropriate place (use the Post Thumbnail Editor plugin)
  • All images on the website should be high quality, but shouldn’t exceed 1020px (Large images will both load slowly, and will allow others to take/use your images without permission)
  • Blog posts should be attractive, and well planned out (Example post: link to BEFORE post, link to AFTER post)
    • Crop and save your images to specific sizes for use in your blog post (600px is usually a good width for your images)
    • Utilize columns (This will limit the amount of scrolling, and group related content together)
    • Using headings (h1, h2, h3, h4, h5, h6) to break up your content
    • Galleries can be used to showcase larger images
    • Keep consistent spacing between your layout elements

Posts

  • You should have at least 3 blog posts for this class
  • All posts should adhere to the guidelines found on the “Create Posts” page
  • All posts should have a featured image

Plugins & Configuration

All required configurations and plugins labeled on the checklist plugin should be installed, activated and setup.

Professionalism

  • Spelling, Grammar & Punctuation (All of your content should be free of these mistakes. Always have someone review your content. You will lose 1 pt for every mistake.)
  • High Quality Images (Make sure your images are large enough for viewers to understand their purpose. Make a link to larger images if a thumbnail is necessary to use in your post. Make sure that images are not pixelated or distorted.)
  • The website should be easily navigated, and free from broken/incomplete pages.
  • Colors, layout, and other design elements should be visually appealing.
  • The information on the website should be legible.

Extra Credit

The best looking final website will be awarded 5 extra credit points. This will be determined by your instructor.
