The Situation

You are going to graduate soon and need to start looking for a job. You will be creating a website, portfolio pieces, and you need to make everything cohesive. It is time to create a personal brand mark. The brand mark, colors and other elements should be consistent across all projects, your website, and your social media sites. This project will just get you started in defining your brand. You will be creating ONE brand mark for this project. This brand mark needs to be unique to this semester.

The Objectives

  1. Brainstorm and sketch personal brand marks
  2. Gain feedback and make revisions based on that feedback
  3. Create a variety of brand marks that reflect you personally
  4. Vectorize personal brand marks using Adobe Illustrator
  5. Choose a color schemes that compliment your brand marks
  6. Employ the design principles and rules of typography to create a professional project that you want to share with others

Design Process

Brainstorm & Sketch

Take time to reflect upon yourself and brainstorm graphics and other ideas that would encapsulate your personality. Utilize social media platforms to survey peers. Create a Pinterest board with inspiring ideas of personal brand marks created by others.

Simplify, Vectorize & Choose Colors

Simplify your sketches after getting feedback from classmates. Use Adobe Illustrator to create vector versions of your simplified sketches. Organize your sketches and vectorized brand marks to display before and after images of your work. Use Adobe Kuler or similar site to choose a color scheme for your brand mark.

What you will be graded on

  • 1 brand mark unique to this semester.
  • Brand mark is refined and professional.
  • All vector based. Do not use raster images in your brand mark.
  • Not just type based. This just means that your brand marks needs to be more than just a good font. It could be as simple as incorporating a simple shape into the design, or as complex as a detailed illustration.
  • A blog post process write-up. You will provide a link to this blog post as your submission of this project. This blog post should tell the story of how you created your brand marks. Use this logo creation case study as an example of how you should create your blog post – Asun Asyar Case Study. (You probably don’t have your self-hosted WordPress setup at this time. Feel free to create this blog post on a free wordpress.com blog.) It should be well written, and include the following:

One of these brand marks can be from a previous semester, but the other one needs to be unique to this semester.
