Instructional Materials
Instructions
1) Cover
An attractive cover with the product name, your name, and your personal logo.
2) Table of Contents
Includes all pages of your pitch book. The text is small and simple.
Select a product to redesign and write a plan to increase sales. Include the product name, target group, brief history, and a big idea to redesign the package and advertise it.
4-5) Style Guide
- Create a Style Guide for consistent design standards including, but not limited to:
- Fonts for titles and copy, Font categories, along with style and size recommendations
- A color scheme with color names, swatches, and color numbers for CMYK, RGB, Panotne, and Hex
- Page layout (use a consistent layout for all pages)
- Logo(s): in color and grayscale with recommendations for size and placement
6-7) Package Design, Application and Photography
- Design a two-dimensional (flattened) version of your product package design
- Photograph the new and original packages for comparison
- Create your new package by applying the label, wrapping, or folding it
8) Product Advertisement Design an ad of your choice to introduce your new product and big idea. Choose an ad that will appeal to your target audience. It could be a brochure, direct mail piece, magazine spread, bus wrap, billboard, animated web banner, or product home page. Make sure that your ad follows the design principles and rules of typography. Also be sure to include a clear call to action.
Final Presentation The class and instructor will act as the client. You will present as if you were talking to this client. Do not present your product redesign as a school project. You will be graded based upon this role. Your presentation will be limited to 2-3 minutes. Pitch your product redesign to the client by presenting the following items:
- Present the client with the printed pitch book
- Give a short intro that will grab the client’s attention (Click here for suggestions)
- Explain your big idea to the client & showcase the redesigned product
- Justify why you are suggesting a redesign (why is it better than the current product?)
- Explain your chosen target market and how the redesign appeals to them
- Explain how you going to increase the clients sales
- Conclude the presentation with a “call to action” (Click here for a short video)
You will need to practice this presentation before you come to class. This presentation should be memorized. Reading from cards will lower your grade.
Rubric (Part 1)
70% of your grade comes from this checklist (Failure to meet any of these requirements disqualifies you from earning anything higher than a 85% on the whole project.)
