Redesign Style Guide A

Introduction

It is time to start designing your pitch book. After designing your layout you will insert your written plan, and begin creating your style guide. Style guides are very important to keep unity throughout a companies branding. Style guides set rules for colors, fonts, typography, placement and other elements that determine the visual appearance of a brand. Confusion can result from a poorly written style guide. Take a look at a few well know company style guides:

Pitch Book PDF Requirements

Design:

Start creating a consistent layout for your style guide. This should be appealing and not distracting.  I would suggest using InDesign master pages for your layout. Visit the comm 130 master page activity page for instructions on how to use InDesign master pages: https://130.commbyui.org/p9-portfolio-project/p9a-master-pages/

Be sure to follow and incorporate the design principles. Also utilize good use of typography. Your body copy should be legible and an appropriate size and font. Read/review the Rules of Typography outlined in the this pdf. You will be graded on how well you comply to these rules.

Page 1 – Plan:

You should already have your one page plan written for this project. Take some time to arrange and stylize your plan content onto this first page. Remember that this needs to include:

  • Product name
  • Target group (A description of who your target group is)
  • Brief history (A brief history of your product or the company who makes the product)
  • Big idea (a description of how you want to redesign your product. Do not use phrases like “I feel” or “I believe.” Include how you plan on advertising your new redesigned product. Also include how your redesign and advertising will increase sales.)

Page 2 – Style Guide A:

This is the fist page of your style guide. This page should include, but is not limited to, the following elements:

  • Title font name (written in the font), style (bold, italic, etc), and size recommendations.
  • Copy font name (written in the font), style (bold, italic, etc), and size recommendations.
  • Color swatches with color names and color codes (CMYK, RGB, Pantone, and Hex)

Photoshop is the easiest place to find all of the color codes needed for this activity. Use the eyedropper to select the desired color and then double click on the foreground/background swatch to reveal this menu:
