Instructional Materials
Instructions
- Choose a topic: You may select the content for this video podcast. It should be an informative or entertaining topic suitable for a prospective employer to view on your final portfolio website. It could be a documentary, service activity, or a portfolio of your best photos or favorite project. Even a demo of an interesting hobby or music video would work nicely. This is a chance to share your personality and part of yourself that may otherwise go unnoticed on your final website.
- Minimum requirements:
- File size and type: Your video podcast must be 90 seconds to 150 seconds long and less than 5mb in file size. It must be created in iMovie HD on a Mac and you need to use the H264 codec to create an mp4 video. See the iMovie Podcasting tutorial for more details about compression and screen resolution.
- Organization: Design appealing and informative intro and conclusion slides in Photoshop that include: name, title, and contact info. List all sources and credits on conclusion slide, and end on video.
- Images and/or video: You may use still images taken in the past and /or video footage. Though not preferable, you may use images form the Internet, as long as you follow the fair use guidelines and copyright laws. For more on this, see the Ethics tutorial.
- Audio tracks: You must have two audio tracks, one with your own narration and one with your own GarageBand music. Include at least 1 minute of narration, and at least 20 seconds of music, though both tracks may extend through the entire video. Be sure to fade music out at the end.
- Basic construction: Follow the step-by-step tutorial located above to create your video podcast. Use one of the high-quality Logitech USB mics provided for the narration.
- Publish your podcast to your website then present it in class: Upload your video to YouTube and embed it in your final project post. You will also save and upload the 5mb .mp4 to your site and create a simple download link. Make sure to check if the link works and it downloads the correct file.
